Shiver me timbers...

And all that sort of stuff. Grayson C finally giving an update of our Christmas day/week (yes I know I am late - give a 15 month old a break!)
Now, where was I
The fun began Christmas eve with Grandma and Grandpa, Nan, Pa and Ron coming over for a BBQ. Mummy seemed a bit concerned about my tendency to head off towards the BBQ - it did look RATHER fun - she kept muttering something about Acticoat, skin grafts and how it might be a bit embarassing for her or something. Hmmm. Don't know about that. In the end I crashed after main course/present opening as it was getting a little late.
The next morning I woke up, and there was this SHIP at the end of our bed AND it had PIRATES on it (which match my pirate PJs - AAAARRR) not to mention a big sack filled with presents. The presents were pretty good but I had to tell mummy and daddy that the best present is early morning squishey - so they took the hint and got me a bottle of that too.
On the less than pleasant side, my mouth was REALLY hurting and I needed lots of pain relief and bonjella to stop that molar coming through. I may have been feeling a bit frazzled at this stage so I had to make sure mummy and/or daddy were giving me lots of cuddles all the time. (This may have put a dint in their lunch prep plans but I think they need to realise that it is ALL ABOUT ME)
Nan and gramps and Aunty Riley came over for lunch and I got even MORE cool presents. I think we need to go to ikea to buy up a bit more storage space for them all. Ahem, father?
Today we went to the Gold Coast to see Grandma and Great Grandma. I got to play with my older cousin Matthew - who pretended to do a funny walk after me (and TOLD mummy he was waddling like me- AAAACK! I don't waddle!!! I am WALKING, I AM WALKING!! So what if I loll about from side to side. This is a patented Grayson swagger that I am practising for when I get older and need to impress...someone or other)
WADDLING???
Its enough to drive a baby-toddler to more drink

I think I need to lie down now

Although he was better behaved than Henry (the 16 month old in front of him) who screamed bloody murder! Maybe next year he will understand what it is all about. He did get a nice balloon from the balloon fairy in DJ's. But walking down the mall some low life stuck a pin in it causing it deflate (I hope Santa was watching and added that loser to his naughty list!) Luckily daddy had a back up balloon in G's backpack that he was able to quickly inflate and all was good again :)

Grayson Helps Out

It has been awhile since I last posted but I blame Australia's poor internet connections. You see I have been in hospital and had to deal with dial up! And let me tell you it is even worse than I remember. I truly don't understand how anybody can use it these days. But maybe that is the point.....so everyone will sign up for Australia's crappy broadband instead. Oh well at least PM Rudd will sort things out with 100mbps broadband. Anyway here is Grayson's favourite pastime de jour!

Since it was such a nice day Grayson and I decided to have a quick dip in the pool at dad and Karen's place. Not too sure at first but seemed to come around in the end. If we decide to buy the house at Alderly then he will have his own pool to frolic in. But you know how auctions are....the bidding might get out of control in which case we will bow out and keep looking.

Schmap!!

What is Schmapp you ask? Well I had to look it up as well but it turns out it is an online tourist guide of sorts telling visitors where the cool places to hang out are. I found this out recently when I got an email from them wanting to use one of my Flickr photos for their latest guide. So you can now check it out too here. On the top right there are a few photos of the Belgian Beer Bar and you can click the arrow to see mine.

Noosa updates - aka the dangers of co-sleeping...

My new bucket and spade
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Hello from Grayson - and if I sound a bit sillier than usual it is because I am febrile (39.8!) and am under the influence of medications - such as panadol and nurofen - not to mention mummy might be a little mad at me....
It all started when Daddy had to go back home to Brisbane, JUST after we had arrived in Noosa (or so it seemed). Something about an exam I think. That left me and the mother unit to our own devices Thursday night. I did all the usual things, dinner, a couple of tunes at the piano bar and then went to bed. Sounds quite innocent at the moment doesn't it. At about 11pm I woke up and felt REALLY sick and may have turned over and may have puked up all my dinner and squishey and dessert all over mummy - who was fast asleep in bed with me.
Well, she was pretty good about it all - particularly with all that sticky stuff in her hair and everything. She and I had a nice warm shower (after which I may have been sick again, and I wont mention the stuff that came out the other end) and we hopped into the other bed - which wasn't QUITE as good as the first one, but it was a lot cleaner. Mummy may have muttered something about not having another pair of pyjamas so she ended up wearing one of the hotel robes (which were a bit scratchy to cuddle against ). I was feeling a little bit FRAGILE after all of this and did spend the rest of the night needing mummy cuddles and a bit of constant reassurance.... Not to mention another bottle or two as well - Hey my tummy was EMPTY!
Mummy didn't look her nice self in the morning - but I am smart enough not to say anything (Daddy has taught me a lot about this sort of stuff already) as she was a bit grumpy too....
So!
Last night I stayed with grandma and grandpa as the parents were going out to some swish restaurant (Berardos) - I was a TAD miffed - why couldn't my bugaboo fit in there hmm? I didn't sleep too much as I was a bit pooky about not going out and my mouth was really really sore (I think its another tooth - or as I am known to say these days... "Oh oh!")
But I digress.
Today things picked up a bit as mummy had FINALLY finished at that conference thing and the three of us went out for lunch, then for some ice-cream and I managed to score a nice blue spade and orange bucket - which I put to good use as the montage on flickr shows.

Off to sleep for me now - over and out from Grayson "Danger Mouse" Cook.

As to the meaning of that.... well, I will let the parental units explain that in another blog entry.

UQ feel for home exam

UQ feel for home exam
Originally uploaded by b boy.
I had to sit an online exam for my masters yesterday so to make it feel more like the uni exams that I have come to know and love I decided to add that authentic flavour with a blackboard telling me the start and finish times. The only thing missing was the little old lady that used to remind us not to have any illegal materials in the exam room (she was a medical school exam institution!). This was supposed to be a closed book exam but they obviously had to rely on us to do the right thing here as I had internet access to a world of information at my fingertips. At least they had a sneaky way to see if it was actually me sitting the exam. About half way into the exam one of the questions was "what is your date of birth?". I guess at least I got one right!

Later in the day we headed up to Noosa for Mel's conference and are staying at the Sheraton. I will post some photos of our stay over the next few days. I have to go back down for a "real" UQ exam tomorrow morning.

Grayson becomes one with the monkey
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Last night was G's first night away from both mummy and daddy. He stayed at Mel's parent's place so we could have a night out and a sleep in the next morning. Nothing too outrageous....just a film at Centro (Death at a Funeral) and then home really. We did have a few Louis Roederers before the film so that made it more of a night out. The film was recommended by Sebastian and it didn't disappoint as it was quite humerous.

Later that night our plan of an uninterrupted sleep was rudely sabotaged by some lower class tart, apparently acquainted with the neighbours......yes, those noisey ones who like Shannon Noll in the early hours.......who kept ringing our intercom at 3am but would not answer. Finally I had to go down to stop the intrusion on our peace and she gave some lame arse excuse about trying to get in to see her brother (the neighbour) who was obviously out or decided he didn't want to see her that night and therefore was not answering his intercom. The slack b@*# didn't even apologise for waking the complex (we weren't the only unit she had been buzzing). Probably on some form of medication I would say and not the stuff that I usually prescribe.

Anyway putting all that behind us and managing a sleep in until nearly 7am!!!, we decided to go get the boy. We then headed for Manx, one of the restaurants at the Portside district and had a nice lunch. The photo is of G getting rather familiar with his monkey while waiting for the pre-dinner bread to arrive.

Tonight we are off to see Will Anderson at the Powerhouse and we are inflicting Grayson on Riley for the night. Should be fun :)

Saturday afternoon was for playing in the park at New Farm. Grayson seems to have developed a penchant for the playground and especially the slippery slide and see-saw. We stayed long enough to enjoy some afternoon treats as the sun set (see other Flickr photos). Grayson was practising his walking lots and at one point became the subject matter for a photo shoot by a group of Asian tourists. Anyone would think they have never seen a baby walk before. Maybe it was just the slightly humourous waddle he had on the soft grass. Anyway, fun was had by all and all that walking served a purpose, tiring him out so he would sleep well at night :)

After G seemed to recover a little today it was time again for a haircut. This will be his second official haircut (but come to think of it his first one was free so I guess that one didn't count) So this is now his "Official" first haircut! He seemed to cope well despite recovering from the flu and especially liked the chocolate wafer they offered him as an amuse-bouche (daddy got licorice and peppermint root tea and a hot hand towel as a refresher before getting a blue oil massage prior to his cut........sorry, I mean total hair styling experience) A bit OTT considering the amount of hair I have got :)

Once finished, our little man looked quite stylish with his new do and so headed out to see if there were any older women he could impress with a slight head nod and a "How you doin' ?" look.

What Grayson looks like on the inside

Poor little man has not been well this week as he has had a middle ear infection and is getting lots of teeth :(
To add insult to injury he seemed to be getting worse so at 1am when he got a fever again and a bad cough we decided to take him to the Wesley to get an Xray. They also took a nasal swab and found out he has got influenza! Now this is totally not fair as he had two flu vaccinations this year.
The mother unit is also not happy as she seems to be coming down with it as well. It will be a fun weekend I think!!!

Also the big news of the day is that Grayson took his first 4 steps by himself this morning! Very impressive he was. i don't think it wil be long now before he is truly mobile.

Grayson turns 1 (otherwise known as "The Party of the Summer")

Pirate ship cake
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Hello again, Grayson reporting from my pirate's den. I'm rather tired after an endless day of presents, cuddles, kisses, lots of squishey, lots of older women and LOTS of PIRATES.
Mummy and Daddy renamed my day of foetal emergence "Talk like a BABY pirate day!"
As you can see by exhibit A (photo) Daddy came through with the cake making stakes with an amazing pirate ship replica, complete with pirates, a jolly roger flag and lots of loot. The parent units also tried to go for the world record at squeezing a large number of people into our home.
And did I mention it was REALLY hot so we had to stay inside with the airconditioning on and everything?
Mummy and Daddy gave me a truck, a wooden walker and a spinning top. Nan and Gramps gave me a tricycle (with a bell and a flag, although I am going to replace the eurotrike one with my pirate flag and the Jenkins gave me an easel with chalk and a blackboard (I'm sure I can get up to a LOT of mischief with that!). I got lots more things from other people too, but don't have enough room to thank or list everyone.
So I am one now - this means more responsibilities for me (learning to walk, talk and do daddy's BAS so he isn't so stressed) and I need to maintain my youthful good looks so mummy and daddy still think I am the cutest baby ever (although I suspect they are a tad biased in this regard - not that this is a bad thing or anything!)

Please, disregard a rather embarassing photo the mother unit put up on flickr with me just wearing a nappy and shirt. I was getting into party mode!

I'm off to sleep now - a monster needs his rest!

Love

Well we have been busy planing the monstor's birthday parting this last week and a bit. Mel's cake order fell through so I decided (rather foolishly some would say) to step up and make one myself! Time will tell if it will all end in tears. I hope it will be something to remember (well at least for me as G is still a little young to remember these sort of things) I have gone to great lengths in the planning phase with blueprints, a number of drafts, revisions and finally a master plan. I even had to get out the power drill! What for you ask...Ahh, all will be revealed on the day. Anyway the cake underneath all the icing and decorations that I am planning will be made by Jocelyn so at least if the cake thing doesn't go to plan we will be able to scape off all the crap on top and eat a nice cake. You have to have a back up plan :)

Originally uploaded by b boy.
Not sure he was in a swinging mood today! Well we had to do something to pass the time while mummy did her ward rounds. It was quite hot in the sun so this may have been his problem. We are getting a taste of what summer will be like already and I am not sure I like it. We tried the slide next and it was ok but nothing special. We then gave up on the playground and headed inside to play with blown up latex gloves with funny faces on them. You have to make do when you are in a hospital!

Later we went and picked up the coffee machine that needed a few service issues sorted out......and none too soon either as we had coffee withdrawl this morning :( Tomorrow will bring a brighter day as the morning coffee will be had!

G man checking in again....

Today it was rainy and mummy had to go and do another work thing again so left me with the father unit for some more manly fun! Since most of the real manly places to go required you to be over 18 yo and I haven't even got to one yet!, we had to settle for seeing other stuff. First on the list today was the Perth Mint. They wouldn't let daddy take any photos inside so this is the only photo of me today! Maybe they thought daddy looked funny and a bit of a security risk. He was spending a bit too much time holding the 12kg gold bar. I wonder what he was thinking? Apparently it was worth LOTS of money! Some guy showed us how they make the gold bar from really hot liquid gold. It was a bit scary as there were a few flames and stuff but I was pretty good daddy said.

After we got bored looking at lots of coins we decided to go to some place called the WACA. Pretty silly name if you ask me. We went into the museum but I didn't get to see one dinosaur! Just lots of old bats and caps and stuff. Funny museum if you ask me! Daddy did show me some really famous ball. He said something about how it was thrown underarm but I don't see how that makes it so special. I have plenty of balls and I get to throw them like that all the time. And mine looked much more colourful that the silly white dirty ball. Grown ups can be hard to understand some times. They also wouldn't let daddy take any photos. Strange place this Perth.

Well I had about as much of old stuff as I could take so I told daddy we needed to find mummy. We found her where we left her and then went back to our temporary home as it was pretty cold and wet. Daddy made a phone call and someone knocked on the door with some food. We had to have a good sleep as tomorrow we had to go on the plane again and I had to be on my best behaviour. Mmmm...I wonder what kind of mischief I can get upto tomorrow?

Over and out for Perth 07
PS this has nothing to do with Kevin 07!

Grayson reporting again from Western Australia, and can I just say I am NOT enjoying the time differences. I get up at what I think is an appropriate time for holiday sleep ins (730am) only to find that it is FIVE thirty here and the sun isn’t even really up yet.
BAH!
At least the parental units are good enough to attend to my needs at this time of the morning – nappy, squishey and cuddles!
Well, after a pleasant day yesterday getting acquainted with a slightly older woman (more cuddles!), one would wake up wondering what exciting adventures could happen to me today… Hmmm.
I got up at the usual hour but was coughing quite a bit and as a result may have been a bit grumpy. Mummy and daddy took me to a nearby doctor to get him to listen to my chest and stuff. I don’t want to talk about it… Just let me say that a deaf, blind and barely able to walk doctor wasn’t able to inspire a lot of confidence in any of us.
To cheer ourselves up we decided to go out to the Swan Valley for lunch and to check out the Caversham wildlife park where I got to pull a few animal ears, rattle a few cages and come to the realisation that pigs really don’t go “oink oink oink” (more like a really noisy SQUEEEEEEEEEEEAL). Why were there pigs in a wildlife park? Can’t really say (hey I am only 11 and a bit months) but there were also some goats, cows, donkeys AND camels.
Wasn’t too sure about the camels.
And the koalas smelt a bit funny too.
But it was nice spending the whole day with mummy and daddy again.
One nice warm bath and I am off to bed.

It’s me again…G man!

We have been so busy since my last post. As mummy said the room service wasn’t very nice we had to go out for dinner last night. Daddy picked this place down the road and managed to find a pretty good parking spot right out side the door (and if you don’t believe me there is a picture on Flikr). Dad kept going on about how it was such a good parking spot he thought he would have to leave the car there for next time. I don’t understand my parents sometimes!

Today though mummy had to go to some special work thing so it was just me and dad, so we got to do boy things…..well we mostly just went to the park and then the Gant store but we did go see the big bells by the water. (the Swan Bells – Ed) They were a bit loud so we didn’t go inside.

After a bit of a rest we got to go pick mummy up and went back to the park so mummy could see what we got up to today. Just when I saw this cute chick and started putting on some of my best moves, the parental units had to go and embarrass me by coming over to get me and telling her I was only 11 months old! She was 27 months old you see and I wasn’t sure if she was ready for a younger man. Way to go mum!

After I got over the embarrassment we had to go back to the beach so we could see the sun go gown over the water instead of the mountains. I didn’t see what all the fuss was about. After all it is just like the sunrise only in reverse! Oh well, whatever turns the parents on. Anyway, I got to practice my walking (with a little help from mummy) by the beach so it wasn’t all bad.

I will have to wait to see what mummy and daddy have in store for me tomorrow but don’t worry, I will keep you all in the loop.

Mummy and daddy took me on another plane ride to this place called Perth. It must be a long way from home because we were on the plane for ages! But I did have a little nap so mummy seemed happy with me. We are staying in this room with another big bed just like we have at home but not as comfy. We got to sleep in…..well I think it was a sleep in….the clock said 5.30am but it really felt like 7.30 to me! After we had some breakfast we went for a drive to somewhere called Freo. That’s what daddy was calling it but I don’t think he was right because mummy kept laughing at him! I got to eat some nice fruit toast and thought daddy might like some too so I fed him some.

After this we went to a beach and I got to play in the park. It was pretty fun but not as much fun as what we did next. Mummy and daddy took me to this place with lots of fish and other funny things. They said it was called an a-kwere-ium or something but it was pretty cool! I got to see sharkies just like I have at home in the bath but much bigger. Mummy wouldn’t let me take a bath with these ones! But the thing I liked best was the lion under the water. Well mummy said it was a sea lion but I didn’t think it looked much like the lions in my books at home. Oh well, he was quite funny to look at and liked to kiss the glass in front of us. Lots of laughs!

After all that fun we had to go back and have a nap. Tomorrow mummy has to do some work thing so daddy is going to take me to the Gant store to do some man’s shopping! Will check in again later.

Daddy's Day!

Smiles
Originally uploaded by b boy.
We all had fun today. That was after a rather sleep deprived night. Not because Grayson couldn't wait to give daddy his first father's day present......but due to some rather raucous neighbours having a soirée next door. Now I am not adverse to having a gathering where refreshments are served but I do draw the line at very loud, drunk women singing (or should that be screeching) along to Bon Jovi and God forbid, Shannon Noll, after midnight. There are some things that should be made illegal and inflincting Mr Noll on poor unsuspecting smugs should be one of them! I thought this was Teneriffe that we had moved to, not Woodridge! Oh well, I guess I could get them back by having my 40th here and singing very loudly and badly to Björk or Radiohead or something at a rather inappropriate hour :) But then there is the baby to consider......

Anyway after Grayson waking about 6 am to greet daddy with a smile and a Da Da! we got to forget the horrors of the night before and got down to having a nice Sunday together. Grayson's present to daddy was a new 10 mega pixel point and shoot (see photo opposite for a sample of it's ability) so we had to start putting it to good use. We went down to the power house for brunch and to watch the boats go by (see other photos on Flikr).

Next important event will be Grayson's birthday. I wonder how the wiggles sound played loudly at midnight :)

What a funny mummy I seem to have...getting excited about a big white box
I was more interested in the power tools daddy had to use.
RAH!
They made LOTS of noise and did all sorts of interesting stuff... but then daddy seemed to get a little bit frustrated by certain things not being where they should be (ok, I was trying to help out - I am nice like that) and he got REALLY mad when I started being extra helpful by pushing the white board over (I thought it needed to be a few extra millimetres to the right - I inherited this sort of particular-ness from the father unit). Mummy had to come over and separate the two of us.
:(
Hmm. Nice plan to get your own way daddy. Two against one...
Boo grr hiss
Just wait until I get my OWN power tools.

In other news...
I helped mummy and daddy on their rounds today (making sure they made the right decisions in patient management and that sort of thing), visited Felix J, Cheryl and Greg for morning tea (ok, I may have pigged out a little - but they had CAKE) then came home to interview a potential nanny option. Felix was a bit sick so we didn't stay too long - get well soon buddy!

Grayson reporting live again from Teneriffe - and what an exciting week it has been.
I finally got daddy to stay with us again for good (or so he says). For two weeks it was just me and the mother unit at Chez Cook and although she is quite soft and cuddly (because she STILL hasn't used those personal training sessions daddy and I got her for mother's day - HA), I miss my daddy morning tickles with his fuzzy face.
Mummy kept trying to tell me where he was but it really didn't make much sense to a nearly 11 month old. I was a bit concerned mummy might not stay with me too, so I stayed up for as long as I could each night until she went to bed...
Well, the first night Daddy came home I was SOOOOOO excited I couldn't sleep (much) - so it was rather early in the morning (about 3am) when I started clapping and making dadadadada sounds - a guaranteed hit in the parent department I have noted). This time, they didn't seem to be that appreciated, however I did get the Mika song sung to me by mummy, so I went back to sleep.
The NEXT night we got to sleep in a NEW BED!!! It is enormous - and I can really stretch out in it. Mummy and daddy give me lots of room by sleeping on the sides of the bed (which I really appreciate). I return the favour by grabbing their noses at about 6am, making a few mumumums and dadadadas and jump up and down on their tummies. I usually get a lot of cuddles after this - although sometimes it is prefaced by a "...its a sleep in day Grayson (groan)..."
Every night I have been able to watch these bright colourful lights fill the night sky. The parental units tell me they are fireworks - they are pretty noisy, but quite nice - and we can see them from our balcony too! Tonight is the last night apparently. Hmmm. Wonder what I can do to get them to be a regular fixture.
Finally, my hair is starting to grow back after a v v bad cut (don't look at my ears!!!) - I'm going to a real hairdresser next time.
I tried to get mummy and daddy to buy the chair in this photo but they balked at the price - I got a bit excited and may have deposited a little posset on the nice red covering. Mummy and daddy bundled me up and walked away rather quickly after that. I don't know why...

Or do I....

This is what happens when you let mummy feed the boy! Daddy couldn't bear to look. Grayson was enjoying himself. I have to say I often feel like this after a good meal (but hopefully don't look like this).

It has been awhile since the last entry but things have been a little hectic. I have been holidaying at the Chéz Mater for the last 2 weeks. We bought a new bed (king size) as Grayson insists on sleeping with us now (demanding little thing that he is). We signed a contract on a house in New Farm only to lose out to the other potential buyers who also signed a contract (obviously for more money). Oh well, will keep looking. And I have been trying to work out how to do the company accounts in MYOB (there is a reason I am a doctor and not an accountant!) Very frustrating exercise indeed.
Uncle Paul (or should that be Just...Paul) had his visit to Australia and has now returned to the Queen's homeland (QEII that is).

So you can see that there has been a lot happening. We will try to keep more updated next time.

Death to the bogan curls!
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Mel finally succumbed and agreed to give grayson a haircut. Well just the bogan curls (as Riley calls them). For the uninitiated, bogan curls are the long bits that hang over the ears. Mel thought they gave him a bit of a rock god look... The rest was ok for the time being. And cutting G's hair is not as easy as you might think. A very active, not so little, boy....a pair of scissors....and trying to get then near his head without poking out an eye or something. Hence I wouldn't say the cut was exactly salon quality or even straight for that matter. So Grayson has requested no photos on the blog until things have evened out :)

Tis me again, Grayson monster (well, that is what I seem to be called a LOT these days) - and as you can see, I have been practising my monster roars.... this time on the beach (I haven't been to one before, as the mother unit keeps worrying about familial history of melanocytic lesions or something.... see daddy, I do pay attention to those big words you like to use)
:D
We took that strange man staying in our spare room to the beach and to see the Q1 tower as he seemed to like that sort of thing. The view seemed rather interesting and everything beneath us was quite small. The parent units and the strange man all sat down afterwards to buy some funny looking drinks and feed me the usual squishey and smug infant food. I was more interested in the cheese and crackers on their plate, so I helped myself to some of that too.
The strange man (ok, I will call him by his real name.... Just.... Paul)

insert cheeky g look here - MWAH

wanted to go to a "beach" so we went to this giant sand pit with lots of strange creatures walking in and out of the water. I was a bit perturbed by this at first and found great solace in the mother unit who explained to me that everything was ok, the strange creatures were actually people dressed in silly outfits (I can't talk, see what they put me into half the time) and that in summer time we can go swimming in the water. Hmmm. It didn't sound too bad after that so I started having a bit of fun jumping up and down and getting sand over all my clothes.

All too soon we had to go home, and drop ....Paul off at the airport so he could fly to other exciting destinations.

I am trying to be a good baby, but sometimes it is hard being the Grayson. I can stand up and wobble a bit now, and I have developed an unstoppable yearning to know all about.... power cords, giant TVs, DVD players, remote controls, water patches on the outside balcony, the vacuum cleaner, what really goes on behind my change table and those canisters that sit beside the toilet containing rolls of paper and funny brushes (that are a lot bigger than the one mummy uses on her hair)

Hmmm.
Or is that...

Grayson finally updates... GoMA trip with just..... Paul

Smart sensible uncle and me at GoMA
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Hurrah! Tis me, Master G in da house, or whatever silly thing the parental units try and make me do/say these days.
Well, its time for an update - and what an INTERESTING time has been going on this past week
1. We have had a strange man staying in the spare bedroom... well,, he seemed a bit strange at first, although he has the same nose as mummy monster (I mean my dear wonderful mother :D) and likes to tickle my feet too
grrr....
That being said, he does play with me a LOT and mummy keeps saying that he is my oncul (or something) and that he is the only one I have and that he has travelled a long way on a plane to come and see me (amongst other things) and well... he IS kind of fun (especially when mummy takes me into the spare bedroom and I get to jump up and down on top of him in the morning while he is still sort of sleepy....)
MWAH!!!
2. I can stand up from a sitting position by myself! And even climb on top of things so I can access stuff I really need, like car keys/remote controls and a WHO weekly magazine
3. Grandma and grandpa took me to Doctor John last week as I was not my usual happy happy self and was pulling my left ear (the meds hadn't kicked in that day....jk!). He told them I was ok, but that my weight at 9 months old is 12.4kg!
What can I say.... I'm BIG (but toned, nicely toned)
4. Daddy has started to get a bit obsessive about taping television with some antiquated thing called a vcr - sbs in the middle of the night??? Men in tight lycra??? Tour DAY france or something...

Hmmm - the uncle unit seems to be enjoying it too.

Off to get some sleep so I can wake Paul again at some ridiculously early hour in the morning. (like 8am)
HA!

Grayson does the Hunter Valley

RAH! Tis the Grayson monster updating once again on my most recent exciting adventure. Well, it was a little different to what we usually do on the weekend (insert pointed stare at the parents who either stay at home or drag me off to where they work)....
Mummy had to go to a conference so we stayed at this nice place with cable tv
:D
aaaah cable tv....
ok, enough of that
and a golf course and a breakfast buffet and TWO big beds (and a cot too, but let me tell you I wasn't going to spend too much time in that, not when a KING SIZE BED was available!)
On Saturday afternoon, Daddy drove Mummy and two of mummy's friends around to all these places where there were a lot of very happy (and LOUD) people who seemed to use a lot of glassware. Mummy and her friends started using a lot of glassware too, filled with some sort of fluid. I wasn't too interested as it was not in my favourite colour - squishey colour that is. We went to three of these places, with mummy and her friends getting a bit giggly as the afternoon wore on. Daddy and I shared a few resigned looks at this stage, but I think I got the better end of the deal, as all three were giving me lots of cuddles.
:D
The next day, daddy, mummy and I went to a few more of these places, the picture shows me trying to show some interest in the whole process... I was more excited by the cheese and crackers! (YUMMY) But soon we had to go back to the airport and fly home, as mummy was muttering something about having to work - it did sound like something that grown up people do. I was a bit more awake this time for the plane flight and got to see lots of bright lights when we landed in Brisbane. Mummy and daddy seemed pretty happy with me again as I got lots of cuddles and kisses when we left the plane (not like that noisy baby that was on the opposite seats to us!)
Mummy tells me we are going on a longer plane flight in a few months time (somewhere called Perth), and that this time she has booked me my own seat! Its all very very exciting.

That's a big boat mummy!
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Hello again, its me - Grayson - reporting again from G central with news of my exciting adventures over the past few days.
(insert HURRAH for Grayson here)
Well, let me tell you, the past few days have been lots and lots of fun.
Late last week, mummy and daddy bundled me up in lots of clothes and took me to a place called the airport. I was getting a bit confused at this stage, as there were lots of people and noise around, but as mousie, mummy and daddy were all there it was ok. We then got on this big metal thing called a plane and..... hmmm can't remember what happened after that, must have fallen asleep or something.
When I woke up, mummy and daddy seemed rather pleased with me and gave me lots of cuddles. We then had to leave the plane and BRRRRRR! It was really really cold! Daddy kept me nice and warm until we got inside. We stayed the night at a hotel and I got to sleep with mummy and daddy as I may have been a LITTLE bit sick in my cot...
MWAH!
The next day we went out to see this big boat which must have lost its way or something as it was really close to where we were standing. I held onto mummy at this stage as there were a lot of people around and lots of big waves were going over the boat too.
More updates soon about my first visit to the Hunter Valley, how I managed to sneak into the big bed on BOTH nights and my first experience at wine tasting.

My best sad face

My best sad face

Mummy and daddy tried to feed me some cream cheese sandwiches! I wasn't too sure about them so tried to make them feel sorry for me with my sad face. They also have been feeding me something called antibionics or something like that for my sore ear :( Sometimes it's hard being the Grayson!

Are our roads safe?

Cycling Seb
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Maybe not with Seb on them!!

Today we went for a ride over the new Green Bridge at UQ. It somewhat shortens the traditional river loop but that is ok by me until I find my cycling legs! I know I left them around here somewhere :)

After stopping off for a coffee at the end of our ride (Caffeine Espresso, 100 metres down the road) we set off for home. As we were about to turn down Florence street some old guy in a Toyota echo (or similar) turned into the street in front of us without paying us due attention. Well, that was like showing a red flag to a bull as far as Seb was concerned. He of course started to chase him down on his (or rather Les's) bike. Nice effort I must say! He caught him about 50 metres later waving a fist toward his window before pulling his bike in front of his car and unclipping himself from his peddles preventing the driver's egress. He then proceeded to have a few words with the guy and as I rode past I heard something about how the driver's total lack of road awareness would get some child killed one day! Vintage Seb I thought :)

A couple of guys standing up the road watching seemed suitably impressed. I mean all bad driving on the old guys part aside, I feel kind of sorry for him......image if you were confronted by a raving lunatic wearing a Bert and Ernie jersey on a quiet suburban street. But the best part was the drivers first response when he responded, "Did I do something wrong?". I think this just made the whole situation worse!

Bert and Ernie jersey ........................................... 50 Euro
A double strength latte for a caffeine boost ............ 3.20 AUD
Seeing a thin man with hairy legs wearing a Bert and Ernie jersey going into a caffeine rage and chasing down some old guy in a car to debate the road rules............................Priceless!

He obviously likes trying on daddies hats. Today, after many, many months of cycling inactivity Seb and I went for a ride. Woo Hoo! I think the last time I rode was before Mel got pregnant so it has been awhile! Anyway to save you all from a photo of Seb and I in our nicks and jerseys with hairly legs, I decided to put up this one of Grayson getting aquainted with some cycling kit! He looks better in it than I do :)

The things I have to put up with....just wait until I get more mobile and then I will get my own back :)

Apparently today is a special day for mummy and daddy....something about surviving 7 years with each other!!! So first thing this morning when I managed to convince mummy to bring me into bed with them I decided to give them a celabratory poo! Not just any poo...this was a special poo running out the sides of my pants :) Well I didn't have anything else to give them but I am sure they appreciated it.

After cleaning me up the parental units took me for a walk along the floating river walk. Quite a nice view really from the bugaboo. When we all got thirsty we stopped at the Venice Cafe for some squishy and pancakes but mum wouldn't let me have any of the pancakes.

The grandparents are coming up tonight so mummy and daddy can go out for dinner to some fancy restaurant. I guess I will have to stay home and eat my red lentils again :(

Keep it real homies, I'll catch you on the flip side!

Friday Lunch

Lunch in the Valley
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Today was a sunny day after a few days rain. It also had a crisp winter wind. So what could be better for lunch than some freshly made Manhatten Chowder and crusty bread from Fresh Fish Co at the James Street Markets? Well today just about anything because they didn't have any! You see yesterday I noticed that they had it on their menu and it sounded so good that we decided to give it a go today. But no chowder today...maybe tomorrow. Well that wasn't helping us.....we were hungry NOW! So we wandered over to the ever popular Harveys to see what they had on offer. No chowder .... but a very nice duck soup! They also had a nice chocolate salbe for dessert (see Flickr). After lunch we strolled home with Grayson asleep in the bugaboo.
Maybe Chowder tomorrow!

MWAH!

A few cries, at choice times of the night and a well timed cough or two, then I get taken into the BIG bed... Let me tell you, that is where ALL the fun begins.
Not to mention I get a pillow, mummy and daddy cuddles within an arm's radius and cuddles on tap.
This being sick gig is paying dividends!
The downside is that mummy seems to be sick too. Hmm must try to develop an immune system so I get better (and bigger - currently 11.7kg and climbing!).

I try... It is sometimes hard being the Grayson you know...

Just your garden variety shopping trolley. He was quite content sitting in the trolley for the 20 minutes of our weekly shop. He was most bemused by another child sitting in a similar position but throwing a tanty. I just hope he wasn't taking notes!

Helmet Head

Helmet head
Originally uploaded by b boy.
Today we all ventured into the city to, among other things, go to rebel sport to buy Mel some workout gear (I finally got sick of her whinging and bought her a personal trainer for mother's day!). While the mother unit was trying on various trackies etc, G man and myself decided to check out the cycling section. They tell me that you are not supposed to put the kiddies in the bike trailers or seats until at least 12 months old but I reckon he could handle it now....the helmet almost fits him!! I don't quite get the relevance of trains on a bike helmut but the only other one they had was pink. I decided not the get this one but will keep an eye out for a cooler version.

Tomorrow Seb is coming over and we are going to play the "game of the summer" (or should that be Autumn?) .....Kubb! Never heard of it? Well where have you been. Apparently it is the fastest growing game in Europe and the USA and has been described as a cross between bowling, horseshoes and chess. It is a very old Swedish game and now they even have the World Championships held annually. It basically involves throwing bits of wood at other bits of wood to try and knock them over. Despite my rather basic description it actually is quite strategic. After all the Kubb fun we will probably trow down a few tallies (we bought a case of the beer voted the world's best at the recent Sydney international beer competition....Weihenstephan Krystal...also reportedly made in the world's oldest brewery). Those German's can sure make a good beer!

Cheers!!!

Grayson's many faces of salmon... a series

Sigh

Sometimes it is hard being the Grayson.
I mean, look at my parents....
Mother wants to go off and operate on people at a moment's notice and father keeps putting on silly glasses and saying how much he loves his Heine (pronounced hine-knee)
EWWWW
Sounds nasty...
But anyway, the latest news is the parental attempts at testing my gag reflex with more solid food (one incident at the Jenkins place comes to mind - I am a muffin man in THEORY mother!!!) have come to naught, apart from a delicious example that I MUST espouse upon. It was pink, and soft and tasted simply delicious. Mother, feed me more, I will be yours forever...

edit: the mother's response - Grayson - the stretchmarks left behind from your little stay at Chez Melinda are a permanent reminder of your soujourn... You OWE ME!

How to torture parents101

1. Look cute and smile often - it lulls them into a false sense of security
2. When they are not looking, turn cute smile into maniacal grin
3. Wait until they have closed their eyes again - thinking you can amuse yourself at 615am on their birthday morning
4. Either
a. Launch self backwards hitting unaware parent in chest area - it winds them and gives them a bit of a startle
b. Emit piercing shriek which sounds a bit like a prepubescent heavy metal rock star
c. Emit loud and offensive smelling load from the other end - this is particularly effective if the parental units have started meat solids (especially fish)
d. All of the above

Updates from Grayson - again (talkative little thing isn't he)

Anzac day

Things I have done since last updating the blog

Celebrated Grandpa's birthday - I showed off by doing my little rocking dance and working my cute look(s). Great Grandma seemed to like this
Hey, this baby thing only lasts so long, I need to work it while I can

Celebrated Daddy's birthday - he won't tell me how old he is but he keeps shaking his head and complaining about grey hairs (mummy keeps making comments about special birthday parties next year)
MWAH!!!

Celebrated Auntie Riley's birthday - she doesn't have any angst about grey hairs. She's nice
:D

Nan and gramps stayed with us that night so I got lots of cuddles.

After all that celebrating I found that my pants were getting a bit tight with all the good squishey I had been drinking. Fortunately mum had acquired some new gear (from somewhere called ebay - must investigate this ebay option)

We then went to the Gold Coast to see my other Great Grandma and Grandma. They took me to a parade on Wednesday where there were all these plastic things called flags and lots of people were wearing suits and bright shiny things on them. The plastic things didn't taste that good and I fell asleep half way through things only to be woken by a loud trumpet. GAH!! Mummy gave me some hand holding action at this point so I didn't cry. I'm seven months old (almost) now. I'm a big boy!

On Friday we went to see Great Grandma (Nanny) as Great Grandpa was sick and had to go to hospital to get better. I gave her lots of cuddles to try and cheer her up. Uncle Ron was there too and I showed him how well I sit up now (he got some cuddles too).
We went to see Great Grandpa yesterday - more cuddles and kisses (I am a great advocate of cuddling and kissing therapy).

Now I'm all cuddled out.

The Muffin Man speaks.... sort of

I am a mighty muffin man!

Grayson C reporting in - well overdue I know - with more updates from the madness known as my family (someone has to do the blogging, and with the parental units back at work, I am trying to pull my weight)

We moved mid-late March from our comfortable surrounds into more comfortable surrounds (well, I keep hearing mum and dad going on and on about ducted air conditioning, miele gas and how much they love being back at Teneriffe). I was a bit disturbed at first, owing to a significant lack of buzzy bees and dotti stickers - the bee situation has somewhat improved but I have NO idea where my dots are. (If only I was mobile I could go looking).

As for the other upheavals in my life...
Mum had to go back to work.
WAH!
Dad decided to go away for a few weeks (although I got to see him most days, I couldn't take him home with us - and mummy was kind of sad too)
WAAAAH!
One word - VACCINATIONS
WAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Ok, I confess - I decompensated. I regressed. Not back to foetus-hood, but I may have gone back to waking up a few times in the night. Well, mummy must have been up at just the same time too as she kept coming in and giving me a cuddle or some hand holding action. I worked out if I did it often enough, she would take me into bed with her - mummy cuddles whenever I want! (I slept really well after this).
Then one Friday, Daddy came home and stayed. As there wasn't enough room in the bed for me, I decided to sleep through the night again. (after which I kept hearing mum say that I was being a potato-head. Must look up meaning of potato head in dictionary)

Other news? I am slowing down in the growth stakes, which is a great relief to the parental units - as they kept muttering about the effects of freezing and defrosting on DNA, I am trying to stand up (and yes am working on crawling/wiggling too - I am well aware of the developmental concerns of babies who don't crawl - BWAH!) and the three of us are enjoying the delights of living close to the river/parks/restaurants etc etc. Must convince the parents we need to live around here permanently.

Progress report from Grrrrrrrayson - 5 and a bit months

Bonjella Baby!

WAAAAAH!!
What the freak is that pain in my mouth? I've got something sharp and pointy coming out my lower gum and just because I get a bit grizzly about it the parental units try and smear THIS stuff (see photo) in my mouth.
WAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!
I thought that guys are SUPPOSED to try and emote or something as part of their psycho-something development (or that's what it says on the women's channel)
Yeah well, mum and dad have been calling it a tooth. And they have tried to tell me that this is just the start of many many more. Hmmm. I am going to start looking at denture options...

On other news in tormenting the parents front, they measured me at 75cm today (I am just 5 months old) and then seemed to get a bit stressed that they may be breeding a giant. (Mother started doing google searches and was coming up with Marfan's disease)
Hee hee hee - I am just taking my growth hormones out for a spin! Daddy rang up one of his paediatrician friends who told him that there was nothing to worry about (yet).

Damn it, must work harder at parental stressing - maybe this teeth thing will work in my favour after all.

A striped beanie I tell you - in summer? To quote my mother - MEEP! (may I just add that the parents put the airconditioning on full blast so they could take a photo of me in this ridiculous garb before my head gets too big).

What other stresses am I under? Let me tell you, its almost enough to drive a 5 month old to drink.....more (squishey that is).

The parental units are trying to sell our home, and with a contract on it at present - this can only mean a move is not far away. Where will we go with my buzzy bees? And my dotti stickers?? WAAAAAH!

I started child care this week, and had to deal with a sad mother unit. Gee mum, snap out of it. The umbilical cord has got to be broken sometime.

And finally, it seems that there is other food out there apart from squishey. Well, it looks like squishey, and tastes a little like squishey.... but ..... hmmm. Have to work out what I really think about this. Mum says its to firm me up a bit - I think she was getting sick of the (ahem) leakage that one has with the new probiotic formula.

hee hee hee - who says babies can't have fun

The GoMA

The current exhibition was the APT5. It Featured contempory art from the Asia-Pacific region. Some good stuff really. We also enjoyed lunch in the Foyer Cafe which had a nice view of the river and the William Jolly Bridge. Next time we will tackle the Museum.

Vaccination time again

After his vaccinations
Originally uploaded by b boy.
What has the little man been up to lately? He hasn't got into too much trouble. The parents were quite busy with work last week so not many outings for Grayson. Seb came over for Cortina pizza one night and spent some time with G.

I think Seb is coming TV shopping with the boys today (not so long story.....our TV, or rather Ric's TV, self destructed this week....sorry Ric, right when I was going to watch the one dayer!). I always wanted an excuse to buy a flat screen (I thought the excuse that ...."you can bolt them to the wall which is safer for the child as he won't pull the TV onto him".....would work but Mel wouldn't buy it)

Also this week marked the 16 week and onwards milestone which of course meant more needles! He didn't seem to like them as much this time and cried for about a minute or two before he was calmed down with a song and some milk. Some kids have security blankets but ours has security milk!

Well that's about it for this week.....hopefully Grayson and his dad will be watching the one dayer tonight on a new LCD TV....if all goes well today!

The last week we got up to all sorts of things. Last Sunday we decided to have fish and chips by the water and ended up at a little cafe at Sandgate. It was quite a nice day and the fish and chips were actually really good. Earlier in the week we had converted Grayson's stroller from the bassinet to the chair so he could see more when we where out. He seems to like it a lot more now.

This week he also got to meet Seb, who flew back in from Germany for awhile and Jenn, who is also back in the country after a year away. Such a social butterfly.

On Thursday we went to the Jardine family's place and they have a pool. It was about 30 degrees so we took the opportunity to introduce Grayson to water (not the bath variety). I probably shouldn't have put him straight in as I think it was a bit cold at first and he protested quite loudly for a few minutes. But after some gentle persuading, and seeing that daddy was in the water and he seemed to be ok, he decided it wasn't so bad afterall. He even started to splash about a bit.

Sunday, January 7

Here's a little number I tossed off recently in the Carribean....

Grayson was only moments away from having a Fisher Price piano bought for him when the mother unit managed to find this rather smart red toy piano via Google. German designed, made in China and air freighted to Australia from the ol' US of A. Not sure who is getting the most enjoyment out of it though....

So, updates from the smugs? Well, two of us didn't last the distance at the NYE party we went to (one of whom was Grayson). It was a fabulously catered party though - and we did stay for the seafood chowder (the final course before dessert). Arriving home, we opened a bottle of champagne (given to us by just.....Paul upon G's entry into the world) - one glass later and one of us went to sleep. (insert sheepish mother unit look here). Thank goodness for champagne stoppers as we were able to save the rest of the bottle for a picnic lunch with Wendy the next day!

Yesterday the two parental units managed to see a movie (and no, it wasn't a babes in arms session). Thanks to the grandparents we had our first cinematic experience in 4 months - Casino Royale. Now if we can only get out for dinner.... (hint hint)

Other news? Grayson continues to be a voracious feeding monster and growing at a rapid rate. 14 weeks old, 8kg and 70cm.
I think we are breeding a basketball player.
